Agthia traced its origins to 'Grand Mills' founded by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (Sheikh Zayed) , an Emirati politician and member of the Al Nahyan , who were the ruling family of the UAE. Grand Mills began its operations in 1978 with a few flour mills. By 1981, the company had forayed into animal feeds manufacturing. The company's mission was to ensure food security and create sustainable communities in the region.

In 1990, the company diversified its operations again by setting up a new subsidiary called Al Ain Water Company (Al Ain), whose main business was to serve leading hotel chains in the UAE. With the establishment of Al Ain, Grand Mills forayed into the water business...
